Rajima
Rajalakshmi Ratan, a name that sounds unfamiliar and yet, so familiar! Unfamiliar, because she is more often referred to as Rajima than by her birth name! If you are associated with the Art of Living, you might have heard stories from her fans, a few of you would have sat in her sessions, a fewer of you might have had a one on one dialogue! Those who know her adore her, and those who have met her cant wait to meet her again, and those of you who are still fantasizing from the stories you heard, here is a glimpse of The lady called Rajima…
Brought up in a South Indian family where Bible and Upanishads were considered no different from one another – a quality to respect all religions runs deep in her veins. And thus began the process of sculpting values and wisdom in Rajima’s life!

Blessed with a mesmerizing voice, she was not only trained in classical Carnatic music but also got introduced to a number of devotional songs and some of the greatest works in Indian culture – Bhagavatham, Ramayanam , Mahabharatham, Thirupavai, etc., that , she can not only sing, but explain it in such a way, you will be awed by the simple brilliance of poets of historic times! All these just made it more engaging to the listeners, as she takes you through one song after another!
Growing up as a daring young woman, she had lofty dreams of becoming a Pilot when she was at school and a CA when she finished school but, finally finished with a Bachelors and Master’s degree in English Language and Literature, which marked the starting point of her teaching career - call it passion! She worked in a couple of schools for about 8 years in Delhi. Imagine, even after 25 years she is still remembered by her students, who invited her to their reunion in 2010!
As much as a great teacher she is to many of us, she still humbly remains a student of the wonderful teacher called Life! She hasn’t missed an opportunity to learn (sometimes unlearn) what life has offered, be it in school, college or while playing the role of a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother or more recently as guide to her extended family across the globe!
Tune in to Rajima’s station, you can’t but wonder, from where did all this wisdom came from! To answer that, let’s rewind back a bit. Beginning with her father – who was the reason behind the inquisitiveness of her spiritual calling, among many others such as Ramana Maharishi, Paramacharya of Kanchi, Swami Chinmayananda, Swami Bodhananda, Rumi & Jesus. She found the same GURU TATWA guiding her through many Gurus but Final call was from a person who is dearly called as Guruji by many and known as Sri Sri Ravishankar.

various countries doing what she does best – Singing and Teaching!
During this journey, she has been to Israel and Palestine (by her
Masters Wish) stayed there for 90 Days, and impacted around 1000 lives!
She has taught Prison smart programs in Tihar Jail , Delhi and also
jails in Bikaner and Karnal to give them hope and to put the smile back
in to their faces! She has taught The Art of Living courses in
various states of US and India, affecting lives of thousands of people!
Catch her in one of her discourses, you will fall in love with the simplicity she adheres to, the smile that’s ever lasting, the quick witted jokes and the “simply-the-best” lovitude ( that’s Love + attitude). First thing that you would notice is her white hair which strangely compliments her younger looking face! Yah! She is old enough for you and me if you count the days she has breathed, but young enough, if you count the smiles she sports all the time! (Apparently, children smile more often than adults ;) ).
All these contribute towards her being hailed as a mother-like person to so many people and so, Raji-ma is more popular than Rajalakshmi Ratan ;) among her followers (whom she also considers as her sons and daughters - That's Her!)
To, the best part now! Yah! She is more alive now than ever! She is now so much involved in spreading the Knowledge (mostly through her discourses in Bhavatham, Yoga Vasistham, Bhagavad Gita, etc.)! And for a fact, it’s a your-story, my-story kind of session than the boring old version! Really, don’t waste another moment, catch the woman in action when she is coming to your city! If your city ain't on the list.. become an ambassador to your city and invite her! :) How can she say no to her daughter or son!?
